With approximately 43 million hectares of land devoted to organic agriculture across the globe, demand for organic produce is still stronger than ever before. In 2013, worldwide sales of organic products reached $72 billion, according to a FiBL-IFOAM report.
The United States had the largest appetite for organic food that year, with retail sales amounting to $26.7 billion. Germany was in second position with $8.3 billion while France rounded off the top three with $4.8 billion. However, the EU as a whole did come close to matching the US in 2013 with organic retail sales worth $24.56 billion.
